According to local beliefs, the Virgin appeared to three young shepherds on May 13th 1917, encouraging them to pray for world peace. The apparition would take place again on the 13th of every month, for 5 consecutive months. Since that event, every year at the same time, the site of Fatima attracts a great number of believers from every corner of the world.
