Nicknamed the 'Portuguese Riviera', the region of the Algarve has retained some of its charm despite the expansion of tourism. The seaside architecture can undermined and negate the beauty of the shoreline with immense and incongruous buildings built near the beaches. However, peaceful and unspoilt places still exist. Move away from the main tourist areas to uncover small creeks, wild cliffs and small villages with very picturesque white houses.
