Portugal and more specifically the Lisbon coast offers numerous sites which are good for surfing. Surfers and windsurfers will be delighted with the waves rolling at the foot of the Sintra range; the strong winds and troubled sea make it a spot known among surfers all over Europe. Let us mention some major spots such as Praia do Guincho (50 miles north of the capital), and further north still, Praia Grande often hosts international competitions. Surfing addicts will also enjoy Ribeira d'Ilhas beach in Ericeira, Santa Cruz's or Praia de Sao Pedro de Moel, in the north of the Tagus Valley. To make the most of the Portuguese waves, you should ideally go in September or October.
