Nicknamed the ?Portuguese Riviera', the region of the Algarve has lost much of its charm with the expansion of tourism. The seaside architecture does not respect the natural environment and has gradually undermined and negated the beauty of the shoreline with immense and incongruous buildings built near the beaches. However, peaceful and unspoilt places still exist. Move away from the main tourist areas to uncover small creeks, wild cliffs and small villages with picturesque clusters of white houses.
