Sri Lanka introduces visa fee

Travel advice

Following much debate surrounding Sri Lanka's visa policy, a £30 ($50) visa entry fee for UK travellers has been introduced. The country's Department of Immigration and Emigration has launched an online system, the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), to process the applications, which can be submitted by travel agents or direct.

The fee will be applicable from 1st January 2012 and covers double entry for 30 days. Passengers in transit will also be required to pay around £16, which covers single entry for seven days.

Nabeel Shariff, marketing manager UK & Ireland at Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau confirmed that the funds will be invested in improving tourism infrastructure, which is in need of repair and development.
