Located in a bay, the capital city of Doha is a sprawling city with wide motorways. You will find yourself in the midst of white houses, mosques and public buildings covered in arabesques. Visitors will have the opportunity to try real shisha in one of the numerous cafes, which a bustling with the lively locals. Take a stroll along the four mile coast lined with palm trees, gardens, flowers, restaurants and dhow harbours. You can also go on a cruise to Palm Tree Island, equipped with a restaurant and games as well as water sports facilities. The museum in Doha's fort, an old prison from the 20th century, displays handicraft techniques such as spinning, weaving, ship building, wood carving and decorative embroidery. A collection of ancient weapons is also displayed in the museum. Qatar's national museum is housed in an old palace of the reigning family, Al-Thani, and displays historic art objects and accounts on the discovery of oil and the country's economic development. The maritime section includes an aquarium and a private lagoon. It tells the history of pearl fishing and the Arabs' ancient navigating methods. There is also an exhibition of dhows and local underwater wildlife.

If the above doesn't keep you more than busy, Qatar is also a haven for golfers. With numerous lakes, landscaped gardens and giant cacti, Doha's golf course is a contrast to the surrounding desert; the restaurant offers a superb view of the course.
