If you had always dreamt of eating from a banana leaf, try to eat a Thali at the Bangala in Chettinad. The owner, Meppeyam, is 73 years old. She lives mostly in Chennaļ, and has opened this hotel in 1999, her second home. A nice little hotel with thirteen very nice rooms, and a magnificent garden. Here, the typical dish, as in South India
, is the Thali. A blend of tastes and colours. A meal which changes composition from one region to another. It is an assortment of dishes, from the starter to the dessert, served either directly on a banana leaf (as in the picture), or in small metal containers disposed in a round shape on a metal plate with in its centre a banana leaf. The Thali is composed of rice, bread, different according to the region (naans, chapatis), chutney (spicy vegetable sauce), dal (lentils), vegetables, coco milk chicken, grilled fish and a dessert.
