The town of Siem Reap is in the middle of a dazzling progression. Boasting a brand new airport, it is turning tourism into number one source of revenue. Dozens of hotels are being constructed. If its markets stay affordable then it risks losing rapidly its authenticity. Once reserved for a cultured Khmer art elite, Angkor Wat is selling out to a certain extent to mass tourism. In order therefore to avoid the crowds, chose to visit Cambodia in the low season in June or July. While this is the rainy season and the stones will be slippery, the showers never last very long and you will feel much more at ease.
