It was in 1986 that Salouga Island, Gazelle Island as well as four others were declared a scientific natural reserve. Populated with an extraordinary flora and fauna, the reserve is, thankfully for its preservation, very difficult to access. Amongst its reeds one can easily observe the grey heron, the Pintail duck and the Egyptian goose. With greater difficulty and more patience you may spot crests, ibis, the pied kingfisher and the clamorous reed-warbler.
