Almost 100,000 Nubians were moved into villages constructed for them between Aswan and Kôm Ombo. Often painted inside as they are outside, with representations of boats, symbols and flags, these dwellings distinguish themselves from other Egyptian housing by their highly colourful decorations. This is one way in which the Nubians perpetuate their traditions and culture. There are two must-visit sites which will enable you to discover the Nubian culture: the tombs of the Nubian princes (next to the mausoleum of Aga Khan) and the Nubian museum (next to the Old Cataract Hotel).
