Without doubt the most visited places in Egypt, the markets are the principal tourist attraction. As soon as you arrive, you'll be shouted at, usually being compared to a famous person of roughly the same age! Everything is done in order to get a smile out of you. Then comes the haggling: "Cheaper than free!" The most common products to take home are djellabas, gold or silver jewellery (the ankh cross, Nefertiti's profile etc), spices (Aswan's speciality), papyrus and statues in granite. Bartering is an integral part of the souk and is expected.
