Egyptians are hardly ever found locked up inside at home. When they are not working, they like nothing more to meet up in cafés, veritable places of everyday life. Discussions between men (these meetings are exclusively reserved for the male gender) are highly animated. They tell each other stories, talk politics, drink tea, smoke shisha (known in the UK as a hookah) and play dominoes. The choice of a café by an Egyptian is made on the basis of political, professional and intellectual affinities.
