Located in the south of the island, near the volcano Piton de la Fournaise, the Rivière des Remparts slowly makes it way through a deep caldera to the sea at Saint Joseph. Here again the landscapes are remarkable for their diversity. Looking like a deep trench, with the sides made of gigantic cliffs eroded down by the cyclone rains, it offers a breathtaking landscape. Add to this the mix of colours (green, grey and ochre) along the way and you'll understand why a flight overhead should not be missed. The region is practically uninhabited because of flooding, however it hasn't stopped some farmers working on this hostile land.
