You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in an adobe village in New Mexico, where every year the constructions defy the rigours of winter. All construction material started life in the ground, such as the stones and clay soil. Against all odds, the walls, which are retouched in the spring, hold for centuries. Staircases placed along the outside of the buildings take you up to the top floor. The setting is so picturesque that it has caught the eye of several directors. Ksar Hadada is situated to the west of Djerba, in the mountains that dominate the Gulf of Gabès. With a hotel in the process of being built, the area will be a holiday destination with a difference, sure to attract holiday-makers weary of the coastal developments. Swimming pool, palm trees, gardens and a well-being centre will all be available.
