By the road sides, you often see galloping Icelandic horses in the middle of a wild wide open expanses of nature. Pride of the Icelanders, very present in the country's sagas, the Icelandic horse is part of the landscape and the life in Iceland. With is long white mane, its strong legs and small size, it is a very resistant horse, able to face the island's extreme temperatures including its harsh winters. Used to transport goods and cover long distances in the old days, the Icelandic horse is nowadays commonly used in tourism. You can therefore hikes over several days, on the back of an Icelandic horse. The landscapes and the grounds most of the times very steep are perfect for an Icelandic horse ridding hike.
