The multi-jet bath is just one of the many types of hydro therapy available in
Tunisia. Another popular treatment is the massage under effusion. This involves the 'patient' lying horizontally on the bed, while from above, a rain like spray of sea water comes down on to their back at varying pressures and targeting various points in order to massage the body and relax the muscles. In addition it can help to improve circulation of both blood and lymph, relaxes the nerves and has been known to reduce the appearance of cellulite. In many spas the therapist controlling the temperature and pressure of the water also manually massages the 'patient'. This type of treatment is often combined with a seaweed wrap. Another, more severe, shall we say, treatment is the jet shower, which sees the 'patient' standing upright against a wall while the therapist points a hose in your direction and blasts you with a powerful jet of hot water whose pressure can change according to the results required. Similarly to the effusion, the shower can ease muscle tension, rheumatism, stress and nervousness. Many thalassotherapy centres are also equipped with public pools which have various jets and jacuzzis.
