Washington Square is at the crossroad of the districts of Soho, Tribeca, Chelsea, Gansevoort Meat Market and Greenwich Village. You might as well say there is always something happening here. The intellectual and artistic life of the neighbourhood always ends up on this square which was once a manoeuvring field for the armies of George Washington helped by a certain Lafayette. Trendy restaurants, jazz clubs and galleries are found in the surrounding streets like the prestigious New York University, NYU. One recommendation to discover the bohemian heart of the city : walk.
