HFS has a team of highly qualified, experienced pilots. At the controls of our flight was Captain Floyd Maxson who now has over 6,300 hours of flight time as pilot in command. Originally from the Bronx, one of New York's five boroughs, Floyd actually started out life as a successful entrepreneur, building up a profitable locksmith business from the ground in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After being introduced to aviation by one of his best friends from back home, he finally got his single engine airplane licence in 1983. Three years later he received a flyer in the post for an introductory helicopter flight and was hooked from then on. A year later he had his first rating as a commercial helicopter pilot and he became a flight instructor in 1999. Floyd worked as a relief pilot for five news stations in Miami, Florida until 2003 before moving to Hawaii to give tours of the Pacific island. He left that job to further his career and achieve additional ratings which now include commercial pilot airplane, instrument, single engine, mutli-engine, single engine seaplane and instrument helicopter. He has been with HFS for almost a year now and operates 80 flights per week in his beloved Bell 407. Laid back, friendly and full of facts about New York, it was a pleasure to fly with Floyd even if it was for just 15 minutes!
