There are several ways to explore the surrounding countryside. The preferred methods of exploration tend to involve horse-riding, hiking or cycling - horse-riding being the most authentic means of transport and is extremely cheap. If you'd prefer to travel on foot, however, we definitely recommend hiring a guide: having someone explain the names, qualities and origins of each of the plants, trees and other types of vegetation makes the countryside walk between villages and tobacco plantations even more interesting. Bein accompanied by a guide also means that you have less chance of getting completely lost - very easy to do along the myriad dirt tracks. One last tip: make sure that you wear comfortable clothing that you won't mind getting dirty, as while out exploring clothes tend to get covered in red earth.
