Hotel - Canada, Quebec

Special feature Canada, Quebec: Hotel

Hotel
After a full day of sightseeing in the area, you'd be forgiven for wanting to go back to your hotel room and slide into a comfortable bed with all the necessary amenities at arm's length - lucky then that you happen to be in Montréal. Although the historical centre of the city, Vieux Montréal has some surprisingly modish hotels, which would give those in the centres of some of the world's most exclusive cities a run for their money. What's more these hotels offer the type of value for money and space only found in North America. One of our favourites is the Hotel Gault, which gets its name from the dry goods firm which used to have its shop-depot here in the late 19th century. Those who take an interest in art and design (especially chairs) will fall for this chic boutique hotel with its contemporary pieces in the lobby and range of classic seating throughout. The rooms look brand new despite the hotel being eight years old and feature beautiful cabinetry, some of the most stylish furniture in Montréal and oodles of space. With a restaurant (complimentary breakfast), gym and a delightful staff, you'll want for nothing at the Gault. For something a little grander but every bit as stylish and refined, go for the Nelligan, which, aside from having elegantly appointed rooms, boasts a magnificent garden atrium and a rooftop terrace with views on to the St. Lawrence River. Two of the quarter's trendiest restaurants are also to be found in the hotel in the form of Verses and Le Méchant B?uf. Just down the road from the Nelligan and part of the same group is Le Petit Hotel, a rather fun, bitesize property featuring bright rooms (categories are S, M, L or XL) with original amenities and modern design at extremely competitive prices. Perhaps the finest place to stay though in Vieux-Montréal is St. Paul. The hotel has as its theme fire, ice, earth and sky which have been represented by designers Ana Borrallo and Carlos Aparicio using a variety of materials including silk, stone and metal. The immaculate rooms are awash with light coming through the large windows and feature all the quality amenities you'll need. In Vauvert you have another one of the finest places to dine in the old city.
