The Golden Horn is crossed by the two oldest bridges of Istanbul: the Galata bridge and the Atatürk bridge. The Galata bridge takes you from the historical neighbourhood to Beyoglu, a lively place full of shops. This way offers a surprising show. Mehmet is an old man and has sold his Simits on this bridge for over 20 years. He tirelessly pushes his cart all day calling out to potential clients, from one side of the bridge to the other. He is part of the landscape, Mehmet; here, everybody knows him. All the generations meet on this bridge. Each has a speciality, spread on a cloth, or the pavement. Mobile phone covers, cables and other gadgets are meticulously arranged. Or, jewels and watches are displayed on a cardboard box which serves as a stand. Some sell fruit, others fish, freshly caught. The Galata bridge is also the fishermen's bridge. Countless fishing rods line the bridge, waiting for the fish.
