Try to avoid the traffic jams which, at peak times, turn the shortest drive into a nightmare! Begin at Barachois, with its inviting promenade and café terraces. Then play an exotic game of 'Monopoly' by strolling around the streets to admire the beautiful old Creole mansions and to visit rue de Paris, rue Juliette-Dodu and rue Alexis-de-Villeneuve. Then, head off to the colourful, well-stocked handicraft market on rue du Maréchal-Leclerc. Art lovers will probably push on as far as Léon Dierx Museum which displays some very interesting paintings by Gauguin, Cezanne and Degas.
