Saint Pierre, the capital of the south, is a city which, like Saint Denis, is gradually becoming tamed. It does not have any impressive monuments, but it does have a few examples of beautiful Creole architecture to feed your imagination with an idea of what Bourbon Island used to be like. Start from the Hôtel de Ville, the city hall, which was once used as a warehouse for coffee and which is open to visitors during the week.
