 Climate and Seasons

A continental climate with harsh winters and hot summers.
On the Black Sea, the holiday season runs from June to September. The weather is hot (roughly 26°C) and sunny, and the sea offers a pleasant temperature (22-24°C).
For a visit to inland Romania, the best period goes from the end of spring to the beginning of autumn (from May to October). The scenery is full of flowers from the end of April to mid-June, and the light is sumptuous in early autumn. During those two seasons, the temperatures are rather mild in the day time (from 18 to 24°C) but quite cool in the morning and evening (from 8 to 12°C). In the summertime, it can be very hot in Bucharest (up to 30°C), but the weather remains pleasant and sunny in Transylvania, in the Carpathian mountains and in Bucovine (22 to 26°C). The pressure linked to tourism is quite high in July-August.
Winters are harsh all over the country, although slightly milder on the shores of the Black sea. It is particularly cold in the Carpathian mountains, where it snows abundantly. A few ski resorts are open from mid-December to the end of February, but the skiing is limited.
To sum up, the best months for a visit to Romania are May, June and September.
