Kitai Gorod has been the merchant district of the city since the 16th century. It is now a lively district where many shops, offices and bars have taken up residence. You can stroll in the commercial Nikolskaia street, admire the historic monuments such as the Mint, the Merchants Court, the English Hotel, the Stock Exchange, the Boyards' old palaces and the Romanov palace in Zariadie district, or even the churches of Varvaka street, and more particularly the red and white Saint Trinity of Nikitniki's church.
