The ex-Oranienbaum, 30 miles away from Saint Petersburg, facing Kronstad island, can be visited on the same day as Petrodvorets. The Grand Palace, of baroque style, was built from 1771 to 1727 for Prince Menchikov, Peter the Great's loyal companion. Try and see in particular the Chinese palace, built by Rinaldi for Catherine II, the ceilings of which were decorated by Venetian painters such as Tiepolo, Magiotto and Torelli.
