Petrodvorets

Petrodvorets Petrodvorets With its terraces, cascades, statues and fountains lined with several pavilions, the park is a true gem. P.de Franqueville

Located 18 miles from Saint Petersburg, on the Gulf of Finland, Petrodvorets can hold the comparison to Versailles, thanks to its numerous palaces and splendid gardens "à la française". In 1717, after having visited Versailles, Peter the Great entrusted French architect Jean-Baptiste Leblond with re-designing the gardens of the domaine, and in 1745, Elisabeth asked Rastrelli to extend the palace. Inside the Grand Palace, you can visit Peter the Great's study, the crown chamber, the picture hall, the ball room and the surprising Chinese closets. The park, with terraces, waterfalls, statues and fountains, lined with several pavilions (the palaces of Montplaisir and Marly), is pure marvel.
