North east of Moscow, the Golden Ring area gathers all the ancient tsar and prince cities of Holy Russia, which were the country's major religious and artistic centres. On the banks of the Volga and close to the banks of the Nerf, a multitude of golden domed citadels are dotted, which give the opportunity for an initiation trip across the history and legends of the ancient empire. The churches, cathedrals and monasteries of Serguev-Possad, Pereslavl-Zakesski, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Souzdal and especially Vladimir, the old capital of Kievan Russia, are just some of the gems for you to explore, on a trip a few days long, from Moscow.
