In the South, in the Nyungwe old-growth forest, which stretches over 970 miČ, you will be driving on impressive mud tracks in the midst of thousand-year-old trees and in the company of colonies of primates and doves. There are almost 270 tree varieties, 50 mammal species, almost 300 types of birds and butterflies. The forest is known especially for its hundred or so varieties of orchids.
