A couple of miles off the north-eastern coast of Saint-Martin, the island of Tintamarre is part of Saint-Martin's nature reserve. It covers some 247 acres and is a haven of peace devoid of human activity. Only the remnants of a small air-strip built by the Americans during WWII remain, together with some railway tracks and cotton fields. The crossing lasts three quarters of an hour by catamaran, leaving from Radisson Saint-Martin's marina. The boat is docked at Baie Blanche, the most accessible beach, where it is easy to bathe, albeit among sea-turtles.
