MarigotSaint Martin's French capital and biggest town makes up for its lack of cultural identity with its quality restaurants and tourist attractions. Vladimira Dvorakova / age fotostock;
Before mentioning the towns, you should remember that the island of Saint Martin is divided into two parts: the French part and the Dutch part. The boarder seems to exist only on paper. You can go from the northern part to the southern part without even noticing... In the North, Marigot is the capital and also known for it Creole huts, its constant entertainment, its market, and for being a shopping Mecca, free of tax! As a result, fashion enthusiasts will have more than enough to choose from, be it cheap (or relatively cheap) luxury boutiques, or high-tech shops with all the latest gadgets. To the south, Philipsburg is a compilation of main streets, the first of which, Font Street, is a shopping street where you will find everything, just like in Marigot. Back Street, however, is less flashy and offers a more traditional style. Finally, the Dutch town includes a nice beach, Great Bay, which is known for its seafront restaurants and boutiques. You can also choose to stroll down Borderwalk, a new seaside promenade that is very pleasant.
