Saint Louis The oldest city built by the French in West Africa bears witness to its rich former colonial past. P.de Franqueville
Saint-Louis has kept some of its colonial houses adorned with balconies, verandahs or archways. They are all situated around Faidherbe Square, which is an interesting district to wander around in. Do not miss the Palace of Justice, boasting an impressive stairway. Further south, along the Langue de Barbarie, Saint-Louis transforms into a fishing village: you can walk the streets lined with huts with cone-shaped roofs where a lively crowd come and go. The coming and going is marked by the departure and return of the fishing pirogues: it is a sight you should not miss.
