In the south, between Ziguinchor and Cape Skirring, many enchanting villages stand out among the greenery and the bolongs. Ziguinchor is the largest city in the south. Located on the southern bank of the estuary of the Casamance River, it is the most used access point in the region. Founded in 1659 close to the mouth of the Senegal River, Saint Louis is a city loaded with history. Dakar, the capital city, is located on the peninsula of Cape Verde, the westernmost point of Western Africa. A modern city at the crossroads between Europe and America, Dakar is most of all a city of tradition and history.
