Bird is THE bird sanctuary of the Seychelles. Officially called Ile aux Vaches (cow in French), because of the many sea cows it used to hold, it remains one of the curiosities not to be missed. Three million birds (terns, kingfishers, swallows, tropicbirds) live there and human beings are mere intruders who must remain very discreet indeed. From May to September especially, over one and a half million terns come and seek refuge on the island. On Bird, the sea itself is a full-fledged site. Other than corals and seashells, you can observe all tropical fish species and the world's oldest tortoise Esmeralda who, with her 671 pounds, has entered the Guinness Book of Records.
