La Digue has a unique beach for the quality of the setting it offers: Anse Source d'Argent (photo). It is without a doubt one of the beaches the most photographed in the whole world, as the graphic aspect of its huge silver granite blocks, shaped and polished by the weather and ocean, create such an incomparable decor. Fallen rock, gathered as compact masses, frame small beaches where everyone can find what they like, whether when the tide is out, when the lagoon uncovers passageways between the rocks, or when they are soaked in deliciously warm water. But Anse Source d'Argent, beautiful as it is, will not necessarily satisfy real swimmers who will probably prefer the beach of Grande Anse, a sumptuous bay in the south-eastern part of the island, where magnificent jade rollers will drag them into a terrific water farandole (photo). Beware however, this beach can turn out to be quite dangerous in winter (South-East trade winds) and is not recommended during that season except when the weather is clear.
