The gateway to the Seychelles with its international airport, Mahé, the main island of the archipelago gathering 90% of the Seychellois population, offers more than 65 dream beaches. The largest island (60 miles²) with the largest population is cut in two by the mountain in its centre, and towers at an altitude of 2,970 ft, at the Morne Seychellois, overlooking the national park of the same name and preserving lush vegetation as well as some tea fields. The north of the island has the most remarkable views, from the top of a few glacis and especially from the area called La Mission, an old refuge for the children that the English snatched off the Arab slave traders (photo). The north of Mahé is also more lively than the rest of the island, especially around the famous bay of Beau Vallon. Mahé also holds the only real town of the archipelago, Victoria, the world's smallest capital.
