Bratislava is in the far west of Slovakia, 4 miles from the Austrian border. Its old city starts in Michalska tower which forms a door - built at the beginning of the 14th century, it is the only vestige left from the medieval era. This Baroque architectural structure has been renovated several times. There is a gallery at the top of the tower. Do not fail to visit it. Here you feel like you lord it over the whole old city. You should also climb the hill of the castle topping the Danube. Very imposing, this ancient castle is home to the museum dedicated to archaeological finds discovered in the region. Notably a statue of a mammoth carved out of bones and jewels found in the tombs of Germanic lords.
