The capital city Ljubljana is geographically at the heart of the country. The city has monuments of all styles and eras but bears the signature of an international architect, Joze Plecnik, who built its famous bridges, the market and the national and unversity libraries. The old town is a sight for sore eyes, reached by crossing the the triple bridge (Tromostovje), one of the city's main meeting points. In summer, Ljubljana's narrow streets are full of lively cafés which spill out onto the streets. The open-air market is a must-see on a Saturday morning, as is the castle for the lovely panoramic views of the city and beyond.
