Airports
Ljubljana Jo?e Pucnik Airport is located 12 miles north of Ljubljana. Buses run hourly services to the city centre however the minibuses are a more frequent option (9 Euros) and take you right to your hotel. The journey takes about half an hour.

Security
As usual, do not leave personal items unattended. If you are renting a car, do not leave valuables inside, or at least keep them out of sight in the boot.

Languages
The official language is Slovenian and recognised regional languages are Italian and Hungarian. However English and German are also widely spoken.

Religion
The majority of Slovenians are Catholic.

Currency
Slovenia adopted the euro in 2007. Those still with Slovenian tolars (SIT) can exchange them for pounds at the country's Central Bank (located in Ljubljana). There is no expiry date for notes in the old currency, and coins can be changed until the 31st of December 2016.
Use a credit card (Visa, Eurocard, American Express, MasterCard or Diners) to pay for goods in hotels, larger restaurants and upmarket shops. Otherwise, you can withdraw money from cash machines which accept foreign credit cards. Travellers' cheques are accepted. During the week, banks are open from 8:30am - 12:30pm and from 2:00pm - 4:30pm, whilst on Saturdays they trade between 8:30am and 12:00pm.

Local transportation
Roads are excellent in Slovenia. However, remember to drive with headlights (on low-beam) in the daytime... Hira-a-car offices are easily found in all major cities and at the airports. Choose buses over trains for short/medium length journeys for the latter can be very slow with irregular connections.

Health
Ensure that all appropriate vaccinations are up to date. According to the FCO, tick-borne encephalitis is common to Slovenia, especially if you intend to visit forested areas during the summer months.

Electricity
220 V. 50 hertz. Bring an adaptor.

The value added tax is 20% on goods and services that aren't common products (taxed at 8.5%).
