Plantlife

Two plants are part of the culture in Somalia. Frankincense is an aromatic gum obtained from the resin of the Boswellia, which grows in Somalia and the southern parts of the Arab peninsula. Formerly used as medicine and in religious rituals, it is nowadays an ingredient in incense and perfumes. The qat is a plant that grows in the horn of Africa - it creates euphoria and Somalis chew its fresh leaves. A real drug, it is officially an illegal substance and a blight on society. Its consumption is strongly inadvisable.
