From all the big cities of South Africa, Cape Town (Kaapstad) is certainly the city presenting the greatest interest for foreign visitors. With the background of the famous "Table Mountain", a relief of flat mountain summit, bordered by precipitous slopes, the South African city enjoys unquestionably the fame of one the most beautiful sceneries around the globe. You should plan at least a week for a walk-around the entire city, considered to be the most tolerant in South Africa, although the apartheid has inevitably left scars on its face. Take it also as a chance to explore the peninsula of the Cape of Good Hope - the southernmost place of the African continent. What to do: the botanic garden of Kirstenbosch, Simson's Town and its colony of penguins, Cape Point and the Seals' island. After a welcome tour around the city, you can take onto the top of the "Table Mountain" by the local aerial tramway. The panoramic view unfolding to your eyes from this place at an altitude of 3,520 feet is quite impressive. Take a walk along the beach of Camps Bay, at only 15 minutes from the city centre. From Cape Town, you can easily access the natural reserve of the Cape of Good Hope. Also from Cape Town you can take a cruise to the Seals' island. You will arrive just in time to watch the sunset, with a glass of champagne in one hand, and take a glimpse onto the beautiful view of the coast.
