In Transvaal, on the road joining Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park, do not miss the breathtaking view over the canyon of the river Blyde (in the 64, 000 acre Blyde River Canyon National Park). This is one of the greatest attractions of Drakensberg (Dragon's Mountain in Afrikaans), which spreads from Mozambique to the province of Cape Town, with majestic summits of more than 9,800 feet, such as Cathedral Peak and Giant Castle. The Giant's Castle reserve and the Royal National Park of Natal attract numerous hiking enthusiasts from all over the world. The Drakensberg owes much of its popularity to its 5,000 cave paintings as well as having one of the largest canyons in the world.
