In the centre-east region of South Africa and separated from the rest of the country by the Lesotho, is the province of KwaZulu-Natal. This region offers a multitude of great views, colours, natural wonders and rich wildlife. From north to south, you can discover, one after another, the attractions of this region. For example, the Tembe Elephant Park is an impressive elephant sanctuary. The mountain pass of Pongola offers a panoramic view onto the river of Pongolapoort, which is home to numerous crocodiles, hippopotamuses and fish. In Hluhluwe-Umfozi you can find the largest global concentration of white rhinoceroses. In Saint Lucia Park, the hippopotamuses and the crocodiles walk around in freedom. The Zulu capital, Umgungundlovu, is a must see. The centre of the region, in the Midlands, grasslands and forests expands as far as the eye can see. Moreover, it is home to the beautiful Howick Falls and the sea-side resorts on the southern coast which adds to the charm of the region. In Fort Sheptone, you can take a small train which will lead you around the local sugar cane and banana plantations and dunes. Finally, on the other coast, the Sani Pass (a summit of 9,400 feet high), a spectacular mountain road, looks over the Drakensberg. Hikers, fishermen, nature lovers and people interested in the Zulu traditions, everyone is catered for in KwaZulu-Natal.
