The province of Eastern Cape borders Cape Town to the east and is a region offering many activities: hiking, water sports, fishing, naturalism and also mountain climbing, all amid beautiful surroundings. Take a ride, for example, on the "Garden Route" to the west of Port Elizabeth, where mountains alternate with forests, steep cliffs and beaches. The valley of Gamtoos, between Port Elizabeth and East London, is an attraction by itself where visitors can observe the 58 varieties of mammals and 293 bird species. A river, the Great Fish River, crosses the region and provides somewhere for practicing water sports. You can also visit numerous places dedicated to military battles that took place here, in addition to the rugged and wild Sunshine Coast, all this in a mild climate the year round.
