Created in 1979, the Karoo National Park, in the northern part of the province of Cape, is home to a number of rare species, such as mountain zebras, wildebeest, and numerous springboks, klipspringer antelopes and several black eagles. The fauna in the park is less abundant than in the reserves of Kwazulu Natal or Mpumalanga, but the local scenery, semi-desert and mountains of Nuweveld, reveal some of the most beautiful panoramic views in South Africa.
