  • Where can you meet the Ndebele?

The Ndebeles live in the eastern Transvaal region, to the north-east and to the east of Pretoria, as well as in the region of Middleburg and in the province of Gauteng. Forming a minority (400,000 people) in a region predominantly populated by the Sotho tribe, this ethnic group has gained international recognition thanks to its artistic prowess and uniqueness. The Ndebele people distinguish themselves strongly with their buildings and attire of sparking colours and geometric forms. Some of the women wear more than 44 pounds of copper rings and multicoloured pearls around their necks.
