On the eastern coast, between Swaziland (Kwazulu-Natal) and the Indian Ocean, the reserves of Hluhluwe and Umfolozi have rich wildlife; they boast a population of about 1,000 white rhinoceros. Heading east towards the coast, the Santa Lucia estuary, which is the biggest estuary in Africa, is known worldwide for its hippopotamuses, crocodiles and birds.
