The famous 'Route des Vins' is in Western Cape Province, 19 miles away from Cape Town. It is here, amidst landscapes dominated by vineyards, that the best South African wines are made. The historical reason for this is that here, and more particularly in the valley of Franschhoek (the French area), the Huguenots settled after escaping from France when the Edict of Nantes was issued
