On the border with Lesotho, in the Free State, the southern Sothos count in at some 300,000 people whereas there are around 2.8 million northern Sothos, who live predominantly to the north of Tzaneen. They differentiate themselves from the others through their traditional attire as they wear cone-shaped caps and brightly coloured clothes. Whether in houses or huts, the façades of their homes are always decorated with paintings and other forms of art.
