In the province of Western Cape, 19 miles away from Cape Town, is the Wine Route. It is in this area that the vast majority of South African wines are made. The reason is that it is here, and more particularly in the valley of Franschhoek (the French quarter), that the Huguenots settled after escaping France following the issuing of the Edict of Nantes.
